"Go to" guy?
I'm often the guy that jumps in and makes things happen in an emergency when things are falling apart, but it is really nice to be the first contact to do neat things. One such event was recently setting up the "dancing stormtroopers" for the AFI Lucas tribute. Now I've been asked to repair/rehab the 3/4-scale Lucasfilm X-Wing (and its R2 unit) going on display in Los Angeles at Siggraph and the FIDM Star Wars Costume exhibit.

It's the geek version of being picked first for baseball.

Pretty elaborate- I'll try to work up a public update soon. We plan to have a panel at Loscon discussing the rehab, though.

The book should be nice, and I'm hoping to get permission for us to attend the Gala opening at FIDM in costume.

Not only did they work with Shatner, we got to meet and talk to Mark Hamill for quite a while. I think between us all we met, bumped into or took photos with Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, John Williams, Harrison Ford, Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Annette Bening, Peter Mayhew, Don Bies, Maroon 5, Warren Beatty, Annette Bening, Robert Duvall, Bill Shatner, Richard Dreyfuss, Jimmy Smits. Oh, and that Tom Hanks guy. :)

Sadly, camera died that night. Have only a nice blurry one of me with Dreyfus. But I'm assembling a minidoc of the TrooperDance segment, which I'll probably post to the web.
